The Birdcage (8-Mar-1996)

Director: Mike Nichols

Writer: Elaine May

From a play: La Cage Aux Folles by Jean Poiret

Music Arranged and Adapted by: Jonathan Tunick

Producer: Mike Nichols

Keywords: Drama, Comedy, Gay

Drag queen Albert and Armand, owner of cabaret club The Birdcage, the Jewish pair long "married", must make changes as Armand's son Val plans to visit. Val is marrying the daughter of a conservative U.S. Senator. Though playing to stereotypes, very funny with outstanding dialog and outrageous performances. Nathan Lane is perhaps the only individual who can steal the show from Robin Williams. Received an Oscar nomination for Best Set Decoration. Remake of La Cage aux Folles (1978).
