Jonathan Safran Foer, a young Jewish man proud of his heritage, travels to Ukraine to investigate his family's past and track down a woman responsible for saving his grandfather's life in World War II. The ever-inquisitive Jonathan's journey, which sees him working with a travel agency specializing in "heritage tours" and acting on his impulses as a collector, takes him into the heart of blighted Eastern Europe on a quest to illuminate his history and come face-to-face with the brutal consequences of anti-Semitic thought.
